  • Description: Shrubs, 4-35+ dm, sericeous-tomentose; leaves 3-lobed at the tip with a cuneate base, 0.5-5 cm; heads numerous, erect, arranged in a panicle; involucre 3-5 mm high; receptacle naked; disk ?owers usually 3-9 (11). Common and widespread in dry, sometimes rocky places of the plains, foothills, and intermountain parks and in open places in the mountains where its range extends to timberline, 4700-10000 (12,000) ft.
