Gutierrezia sarothrae

  • Description: Subshrubs, 10-60(-100) cm. Stems minutely hispidulous. Basal and proximal leaves absent at flowering; cauline blades 1- or 3-nerved, linear to lanceolate, sometimes filiform and fascicled, 1.5-2(-3) mm wide. Heads (sessile to subsessile in compact glomerules) in dense, flat-topped, corymbiform arrays. Involucres cylindric to cuneate-campanulate, 1.5-2(-3) mm diam. Commonly confused with Chrysothamnus depressus (CHDE). GUSA2 has ray flowers, CHDE does not. GUSA2 phyllary apicies are rounded, CHDE phyllary apicies are acute to acuminate. GUSA2 leaves are long and linear, some CHDE leaves are usually oblanceolate.
